Increasing Website Traffic

Businesses and individuals alike who maintain an online presence should be aware of the traffic they receive on their websites. Traffic tracking includes more than just a hit counter; instead, users should know where the traffic is coming from, which pages of theirs are the most popular, and how much time the average user spends on the site. Knowing the answer to these questions is the first time in increasing your website traffic.

There are a number of ways that you can increase the traffic to your site, but the most important consideration should always be your content. If your site is not interesting, fresh and engaging, no amount of traffic boosting or advertising will cause a long term difference. With the content under control, you can now begin to publicize your site. Creating a Facebook page and Twitter account for your website, with frequent links to news, updates and new posts, will help increase your traffic. You can also join various message boards or post comments on the blogs of others; many people will not mind your linking within a blog comment as long as the information is relevant and does not detract from their own content.

SEO is an acronym that stands for “search engine optimization.” This is a process by which you can increase your page rank within various search engines by using keywords within the HTML tag section of your website. Be warned, however, that keyword stuffing or repetition of a single keyword will not achieve the desired effect. Instead, many search engines are designed to filter such sites and your web page will not be listed in the search results for those terms at all. Rather, design natural sounding HTML tags with the appropriate use of keywords. This will provide the best result from the use of SEO on your site.
