Who is Tracking You?

We live in a world in which Big Brother has been listening in to many of our phone conversations for decades. While no one is quite sure what they might be listening to, it is a well known fact that we live in a very paranoid culture, from both sides of the proverbial fence. However, there are other people tracking you besides Uncle Sam. While his may be the most complex of the tracking strategies, there are others who have methods of their own. Not only are international terrorists planting code on our computers which tracks where we go and what we do, even our own bosses are often out to snoop around on our activities, be they illicit or not.

Terrorists like to keep everyone they can afraid of them. While fear may be the terrorist’s goal, their stock in trade is using whatever means they can to finance and defend their operations. Both the defense and the financing of a terrorist operation can be worked at through the use of planting spyware on your computer. A lot of times, files which seem harmless can serve as the launch pads for the tracking of your key strokes (through logging them), as well as the tracking of where you have been. And once you put in your bank account information, you become an even tastier potential target.

However, terrorists are not all that you have to be concerned about. You also have your own boss potentially stalking your movements online. Bosses have gotten notorious, not only for tracking what you do on company time, but also what you do (and especially what you have posted) on your social networking profiles. While your drunken shenanigans might make your friends howl with laughter, you might end up chuckling your way to the unemployment line when your boss decides that you do not represent the company well enough to remain employed there. You are definitely being followed.
